The JSPS supports
three programs for scientists interested in working in Japan.
The Invitational Fellowship Program supports senior
scientists (more than 6 years post-doc experience) for short or
long-term periods (from 2 months to10 months); the Postdoctoral
Fellowship for Foreign Researchers provides up to 2 years of
support for those with less than 6 years post-doc experience;
and the Postdoctoral Fellowship for American Researchers which
provides 1 year of funding for American graduates with less than
10 years post-doc experience. This award can be combined with
the previous one for a total of three years. Application is done
through the Fogarty International Center (NIH) or NSF. |

The Cobase Program,
funded by the NSF, offers two types of grants to American
scientists who want to establish research partnerships with
colleagues from Central/Eastern Europe and the Newly Independent
States. Short-term Project Development Grants are for
visits of up to two weeks (up to $2,750) to prepare a
collaborative proposal for submission to NSF. Long-term
Grants are for collaborative periods of one to six months
