ASSOCIATION OF
NEUROSCIENCE DEPARTMENTS AND PROGRAMS
FALL MEETING SUMMARY
NOVEMBER 10, 2001
The Annual Fall Meeting is a
dinner meeting held in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of
the Society for Neuroscience. The agenda included the
introduction of the new officers of the ANDP and the
presentation of the annual Education Award to Edwin J. Furshpan,
Edward A. Kravitz, and David D. Potter, all professors in
the Department of Neurobiology at Harvard Medical School. The
ANDP also organized and operated a Student Hospitality Suite
with the Society for Neuroscience (SFN). The suite gave students
attending the meeting a place to relax and meet with their
peers.
This year, the SFN held its meeting in San Diego, California, on
November 10-15th. The banquet dinner was held on Saturday,
November 10th, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The site of the dinner
was the Marina Ballroom F in the Marriott Hotel in San
Diego.
In addition, the fourth annual ANDP Forum was held on Monday,
November 12th, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. This Forum addressed
issues related to the recent report issued by the National
Academy of Sciences regarding the education and career prospects
of biomedical scientists. The response from the National
Institutes of Health to this report was presented and discussed.
The featured speaker was Dr. Marvin Cassman (Director, National
Institute of General Medical Sciences).--
