2002 Annual Fall Meeting

ASSOCIATION OF NEUROSCIENCE DEPARTMENTS AND PROGRAMS
FALL MEETING SUMMARY
NOVEMBER 2, 2002

The Association of Neuroscience and Departments held its annual fall meeting on Saturday, Nov. 2. The highlight of the dinner meeting was the recognition of Dr. Eric Chudler as the 2002 recipient of the 2002 ANDP Education Award. Dr. Chudler has created a web based neuroscience education resource that is widely used by science teachers, especially at the secondary education level. This outstanding resource can be accessed at chudler@u.washington.edu

Newly elected officers were recognized: Dr. George Rebec, president-elect, and Dr. James Roberts, counselor. Dr. James King completed his term as president, Dr. Jack Waymire completed his two year term as councilor, and Dr. Leslie Tolbert began her term as president.

The annual ANDP Forum for students and postdoctoral trainees was held on Monday Nov. 4, as part of the SFN meeting. The focus for this year was "Getting The Most Out of Your Postdoctoral Experience." Speakers included Drs. Paul Shughrue (Merck Reseach Laboratories), Lynne Bianchi (Oberlin College), and John Hildebrand (University of Arizona), representing the perspectives of private industry, a small private liberal arts college, and a large public research university. Following their presentations to a packed audience, a panel of postdoctoral fellows led questions and discussion. The panel's summary of the Forum is available on the ANDP website at http://www.andp.org

In addition, the ANDP again collaborated with the SFN to host a Student Hospitality Room, staffed by student volunteers. The room is a quiet place set aside for students to relax, meet other students, and share meeting notes.

The annual ANDP spring meeting will be held on May 3 - 4, 2003 at the Hyatt Regency in Bethesda Maryland. Please consult the ANDP website http://ww.andp.org for meeting information and registration forms.

James King
Past President, ANDP
