The Association of Neuroscience
Departments and Programs (ANDP) Fall Meeting and Reception is
held every year during the annual meeting of the Society for
Neuroscience. In 2004, the ANDP met on Saturday, October 23 from
5:30-7:30 PM in Room 22 of the San Diego Convention Center. The
highlight was the presentation of our annual Education Award to
HHMI Professor
Ron Hoy from Cornell University. Professor Hoy, who is
responsible for developing "Crawdad" and other highly
successful educational tools and books, gave a short PowerPoint
presentation on his ideas for teaching neuroscience in the
classroom and laboratory. He joins an impressive list of eminent
neuroscience educators who have received this award ( http://www.andp.org/activities/honors.htm).
Sinauer Publishers generously
helped sponsor the 2004 event, which also gave ANDP members an
opportunity to meet with colleagues, participate in a short
business meeting, and help celebrate Professor Hoy.
Other ANDP activities at the SfN
meeting included:
Annual ANDP FORUM for Students
and Postdoctoral Trainees. The topic for 2004 focused on
"Skills and Strategies for Getting the Job You Want."
The Forum was held on Monday, October 25, from 11:30 a.m. to
1:00 p.m. in Room 22 of the San Diego Convention Center. For
more information see the Fall
Forum web page.
ANDP/SfN STUDENT HOSPITALITY
SUITE. The suite was located in the San Diego Convention
Center, Room 4, and was open each day of the SfN meeting from
October 23-27. Many students took advantage of this quiet place
to relax and socialize with other students. Details may be found
on the Student Hospitality web
page.
