ANDP Forum:  Skills and Strategies for Getting the Job You Want
San Diego Convention Center
Room 22
Monday, October 25, 2004
11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

When the postdoctoral fellowship is ending and the job search is beginning, what will employers look for on your CV? What should you do to prepare for the interview, and when it arrives, what can you expect? How should you negotiate for salary, space, and start-up money? After you get the job offer, what can you do to get started quickly? What pitfalls should you avoid?

These and other important questions were answered at 2004 ANDP Forum.  The Association of Neuroscience Departments and Programs invited students, postdoctoral fellows, recently hired faculty, and more senior scientists to discuss these and related issues to illuminate and smooth the transition to research independence. Presentations of what search committees look for and what applicants should do to get and keep the job they want was followed by a panel discussion led by postdoctoral fellows and recent hires. Audience participation was encouraged and resulted in a lively discussion.
