The 2006 Forum was held October 16 in World Congress 408 A at 11:30 AM -1:00 PM. The forum, lead by Dr. Alison Hall, was devoted to discussing the skills needed to obtain a position in today’s work place and the skills required to do well once a position is obtained. Dr. Ed Stricker began the session by briefly summarizing the latest results of the ANDP Survey of Neuroscience Training Programs, emphasizing the data pertinent to the current job market compared to the past several years. Participants in the forum represented various segments of the biotech and academic world. Dr. Nancy Ip, represented the perspective of a biotechnology firm and also provided the perspective of a non-US citizen in Neuroscience. Dr. Thomas Carew, Chair of Neurobiology at UC, Irvine, discussed opportunities at a research University. Dr. Johnson, as a recent faculty appointee at Pomona College, discussed opportunities in institutions that are primarily undergraduate.
