Program Description: The Interdepartmental Ph.D. Program for Neuroscience at UCLA offers Ph.D. students the enormous resources of the entire UCLA neuroscience research community. The hallmark of the program is an integrated approach to study of the nervous system, using the multi-level analytical tools of molecular, cellular, systems, and/or behavioral biology, as well as quantitative and technical approaches from the fields of mathematics, physics, and neuroengineering. Students who perform research at one or two analytical levels nevertheless learn to appreciate the methods and advantages of other levels of analysis. Emphasis is placed both on basic mechanisms of neural development and function, and the biological basis of disease. Students choose their research mentor from the list of all neuroscience faculty in the UCLA community, who currently number about 150. We value intellectual and social diversity of students and faculty, and make every attempt to offer a large diversity of scientific options from which students choose their own educational path.
Please visit our website for a complete list of faculty participants and admission procedures.
