Program Description: The Department of Neurobiology is a basic science department of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. The Graduate Program of Neurobiology offers advanced research and training opportunities in molecular, cellular and systems neurobiology leading to a Ph.D. or a M.D./Ph.D. Our program provides fundamental training in broad areas encompassed by neurobiology and cell biology. The neurobiology training program is focused on providing advanced training for research leading to a better understanding of neural function and behavior. The Department provides broad-based and fundamental training in neurobiology, cell biology excellence in independent research experience as well as teaching experiences in the University and Professional Schools. Our curriculum consists of introductory didactic courses in molecular biology, cell biology, neurobiology, advanced elective courses in the student's area of specialization, seminars, laboratory rotations, teaching experience and an original independent dissertation research project under the mentorship of a faculty member in the Department of Neurobiology. Students with an advanced degree in neurobiology can enter a variety of careers which include academic and research positions in universities, medical and dental schools, research institutions and industry.
