Program Description:  The University of California at Berkeley Graduate Program in Vision Science includes a diverse group of faculty from departments of Chemistry, Molecular and Cell Biology, Neurobiology, Physics, Computer Science, and Optometry.  A variety of courses in Neuroscience related subjects are offered on the campus and graduate students in Vision Science are encouraged to enroll in ones that are appropriate as determined on an individual basis.  Graduate students obtain research experience early in their training periods via rotations in laboratories of faculty who are often internationally renowned in their fields.  Students attend research conferences and participate in journal club analysis of published scientific articles.  Teaching assistantships allow students to obtain teaching experience.  Financial support is available through fellowships, research and teaching assistantships, training grants and faculty research grants.  The combination of these resources and programs provides an ideal environment for the training of graduate students who, on completion of their training, are well   On graduation, students often initially take up postdoctoral positions, before going on to careers in academia and industry.  Our past Vision Science graduates have strong records of career accomplishments
