Program Description: The Department of Biology offers an interdisciplinary program of graduate study in the area of Neuroscience which allows the student to emphasize either the research aspects of the field or various content areas.
The MS option in Neurosciences offers two tracks for interested students. The Research Track requires a 6-credit thesis and is designed for students who are interested in research positions or who plan to pursue doctoral degree training in the future. The Applied Track requires a 3-credit research paper where a particular applied/clinical interest is integrated with course work taken. This track is intended as an appropriate terminal degree for students pursuing advancement in non-research positions.
Research Track: Ideal preparation would include a bachelor's degree in science, such as biology, physics, chemistry, psychology, or engineering, with additional optional undergraduate preparation in physics, chemistry, biology, psychology and mathematics. An otherwise well-qualified student whose background does not contain all the requisite courses may be considered. All applicants must submit scores on the general aptitude section of the GRE or MCAT scores.
Applied Track: Ideal preparation would include baccalaureate work in some area of the life or health sciences such as biology, psychology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or nursing, with additional optional undergraduate preparation in chemistry and biology. An otherwise well-qualified student whose background does not contain all the requisite courses may be considered. For health professionals, results of licensing and/or certification exams may be submitted in lieu of GRE scores.
