Program Description:  The Graduate Program in Neuroscience combines resources in clinical and basic neuroscience to educate students in psychiatric and neurological diseases, brain imaging systems, cellular and molecular neuroscience. Over 50 neuroscientists within the Institute of Neuroscience, the Synapses and Cognitive Neuroscience Center, the Developmental and Regenerative Medicine Programs and the clinical and basic science departments provide research opportunities which include learning and memory, synaptic plasticity, stem cell research, neuronal migration, neuronal regeneration, receptor trafficking, dendritic plasticity, synaptic development, cannabinoid and dopamine receptor signaling, vision, movement disorders, epilepsy, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases and drugs of abuse.

Admission Requirements:  

B.S., M.S. or M.D. degree (or equivalent)
Three references from individuals qualified to assess prior academic and research performance
An official transcript from each college or university attended (must be mailed directly to MCG from the institution)
Official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test score. Scores must be less than 5 years old. $30 application fee
Note: The Biomedical Sciences Ph.D. program will pay the application fee for applicants who meet the following criteria:
Applicants are U.S. citizens or individuals with a permanent visa
Applications are for the Ph.D. program in Biomedical Sciences
Applications are received by December 31, 2005
Applicants who meet these eligibility requirements and apply online will receive a rebate; those who send applications by mail need not send the $30 fee.
Applications postmarked after December 31, 2005 will be charged the fee.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores (of at least 550 paper-based or 213 computer-based) must be submitted for those whose first language is not English.

Annual Tuition and Fees Costs:  Students with stipend support pay reduced tuition and fees currently totaling $954 per year.

Approximate Cost of Living Per Year:  $18,500

Daycare Facilities and Costs per Month:  The Child Care Center is located adjacent to the campus at 601 Bailie Street and is open five days a week, Monday through Friday, twelve months a year, for children six weeks to four years of age. The hours of operation are from 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Call the Child Care Center at 721-4171 for more information.
