Program Description:
The University of Illinois at Chicago has a long and proud history of scholarship in the Neurosciences. The Graduate Program in Neuroscience at UIC is designed to provide a strong training in fundamental life science related to brain research. There are several Centers of Excellence in Neuroscience research and teaching at the University of Illinois at Chicago. This includes several Departmental Programs leading to doctoral degrees. This program is designed to provide a curricular infrastructure in Neuroscience and promote collegiality among the Neuroscience faculty and students across the Campus.
Areas of study and research are multidisciplinary including cellular neural signal transduction and molecular biology, systems and integrative/cognitive neuroscience, and human behavioral and applied therapeutic neuroscience and methods of neural imaging.

Our program is home to internationally renowned Neuroscience faculty spanning diverse research interests
The Program in Neuroscience offers work leading to a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Neuroscience and a Master of Science.
Admission
Requirements: Baccalaureate Field: No restrictions. Prior academic work in the following disciplines is strongly recommended:
Biology 8 hours - introductory biology plus lab
Chemistry 16 hours - general chemistry and organic chemistry plus labs or
Biochemistry 3-4 hours
Physics 6 hours - introductory physics
Grade Point Average: A minimum average of 3.0 (4.0 = A) for the final 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of undergraduate study.
Tests Required: GRE general; scores will be evaluated on an individual basis in relation to other markers of academic achievement.
Minimum TOEFL Score (for International Applicants): 620 paper-based; 260 computer-based. For the TOEFL iBT, we will utilize the Graduate College minima (Reading 19, Speaking 20, Listening 17, Writing 21, Total 80).

Annual Tuition and Fees Costs: Students in the program are hired as graduate research assistants and paid a stipend. There is a tuition and service fee waiver. The student is responsible for paying the following feees: health insurance, health service, general, student-to-student, and Illinois Student Association. These fees are approximately $820.00 per semester.
Approximate Cost of Living Per Year: $18,000
Housing Availability and Costs Per Year: Shared apartment in a student residence hall is approximately $600 per month. Students may find apartments in the UIC area for approximately $1,000 for 2-3 bedrooms.
Day-Care Facilities Availability and Costs Per Month: The Children's Center on campus takes children up to 6 years old. Rates are determined on a sliding scale based on family income and other financial resources.
Stipend/Assistantships and Financial Assistance: If admitted, options are discussed.
