Program Description:  The Program in Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary program administered through the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the School of Medicine. The neuroscience faculty span the Charles River, Medical, and Woods Hole campuses. The program takes advantage of the wide range of neuroscience expertise among many departments at Boston University to provide students with a broad-based mulit-disciplinary program which is unique in its focus on both experimental and computational approaches to understanding neural systems. The faculty approaches all disciplines of neuroscience, from the molecular and cellular bases of neurobiological processes through the clinical diagnosis of neurological diseased. A broad range of research areas are represented, including cellular and molecular neurobiology, cellular and systems plasticity, structual neurobiology, neurophysiology, sensorimotor integration, learning and memory, cognitive sciences, computational modeling, biomolecular engi!
neering, and neuropharmacology. Graduates are trained to pursue research in neuroscience with a specialization in an area of their choice, to identify significant research problems, and to formulate logical, comprehensive strategies for studying these problems. Students have extensive knowledge of the scientific method and an appreciation for the demands that this method makes on the integrity of scientists.
