Program Description: The interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program is one division of the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program. Participating faculty are primarily from the Department of Neurosciences, but also from the Departments of Neurology and Psychology. Students complete a core curriculum in biomedical sciences and then an individualized program of courses and research in neuroscience. Students may choose among neuroscience research laboratories at UNM Health Sciences Center or at the Los Alamos National Laboratories. Neuroscience graduate students are part of an interactive neuroscience group that sponsors a weekly seminar series and journal clubs.

Annual Tuition and Fees: Residents, $3,076; non-residents, $9,488.

Approximate Cost of Living: The cost of living in Albuquerque is moderate.

Housing Availability and Costs Per Year: The University of New Mexico provides a limited number of rooms for graduate students in residence halls and 200 University-managed apartments for married students. Other houses and apartments are available in the vicinity of the School of Medicine. Housing costs are reasonably moderate.

Day-Care Facilities Available and Costs Per Month: Both private and university day care facilities are available

Stipend/Assistantships and Financial Assistance: The Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program provides fellowships of $21,500, plus health insurance, tuition and fees during the first year for students accepted into the program. Advanced students are support by research grants and individual departments. Additional training grants and programs to support minority students are available.
