Program Description: The Neuropharmacology and Neurobiology Research Group (NNRG) is comprised of a consortium of faculty with research interests in the neurosciences. These diverse but related disciplines include analytical chemistry, biophysics, biochemistry, developmental neurobiology, molecular biology, neuroanatomy, neurochemistry, pharmacology, neurophysiology, neurosurgery, psychology, radiology, and internal medicine. The major purpose of the NNRG is to facilitate and strengthen collaborations in neuroscience research; it also provides a unique interface for interactions between clinical and basic scientists. Within this theme, a large number of research interests are found which are related to the nervous system and the actions of drugs. They are: development of the central nervous system, substance abuse, dynamics of transmitter systems and transmitter receptors, cerebral ischemia, and discovery and development of new medications.
