Program Description: The faculty members associated with the behavioral neuroscience program are in the Psychology and Life Science departments. Areas of research include: 1) the neurobiology of learning and memory using both laboratory and natural models of behavior. 2) The neurobiology of emotions with an emphasis on animal models of psychiatric disorders and psychopharmacology. 3) Developmental neuroscience with a strong interest in understanding the relationship between environmental trauma, such as undernutrition or exposure to toxins, and brain development. 4) EEG analysis of sleep, attention, learning, circadian rhythms and emotions in both human and animal subjects. 5) Neural network modeling of cognitive processes. 6) Comparative neuroanatomy and neurochemistry in vertebrates. 7) Neuroethology Laboratories are equipped to carry out pharmacological, EEG, unit recording, immunocytochemistry, anatomical pathway tracing and lesion research.
