Program Description: Founded in 1992, the Neuroscience Graduate Program at OHSU consists of about 64 predoctoral students and more than 140 faculty. Training is multidisciplinary, allowing students to choose research areas ranging from molecular to behavioral neurobiology. The school is the site of the medical and dental schools for the Oregon State System of Higher Education. Faculty members come from the basic science departments of the university, and from associated renowned research institutes (Oregon National Primate Research Center, Vollum Institute, Neurological Sciences Institute, and the Center for Research on Occupational and Environmental Toxicology, to name a few). Laboratories in all these sites are open to graduate students. The university is located on a hilltop overlooking Portland, Oregon, the major city in a vibrant metro area which is home to more than 750,000 people. It has affordable housing and is located in a stunning Pacific Northwest environment, within short drives to ocean beaches, glaciated volcanos, rain forests and high elevation deserts. The stipend for the 2006-2007 academic year will be $23,500; tuition and health insurance are also provided for all students admitted to the program.
