Program Description:  Drexel University College of Medicine offers an integrated program of formal course work, investigative research and teaching experience that leads to the degree of Doctoral of Philosophy in Neuroscience. A program leading to a Master's in Neuroscience is also available and is a thesis-based option. In both programs, an interdisciplinary approach to research problems in neuroscience is emphasized. It is anticipated that graduates of the program will pursue careers in academic research, industrial/biotech research, and teaching or government services. Participating faculty members are from the department of Neurobiology & Anatomy, Pharmacology & Physiology, Psychiatry, Microbiology, and Biomedical Engineering. Faculty research interests encompass the basic disciplines in neuroscience such as cell and molecular neurosciences, developmental neuroscience, behavioral neuroscience and computational neuroscience, and are specifically focussed on axon growth, synaptic plasticity, ion channels, monoaminergic systems, drug abuse, spinal cord injury and repair, traumatic brain injury, stress and neuroengineering. The members of the program are highly interactive and student collaboration between laboratories is strongly encouraged. The program maintains a weekly seminar series and weekly journal clubs. In the first year, students take a core curriculum in the biomedical science as well as an introduction to Neuroscience course and then continue in the second year with more specialized advanced neuroscience courses. Students in the third year and beyond are primary engaged in thesis research activities.

Admission Requirements:  B.S or B.A. degree in biological or physical science or phsychology from a accredited college or university. We require a personal statement, three letters of recommendation, official GRE scores. Emphasis placed on previous laboratory experience and recommendations from a teacher or research supervisor and a furture commitment to research.
