Program Description:  The Psychology department at George Mason University offers a 32 hour MA program in Experimental Neuropsychology. The program requires a one year sequence in neuronal mechanisms, a one year sequence in statistics, a practicum or thesis and four elective courses. The program normally takes a minimum of 18 months to complete. The department is affiliated with the Bioresource Development Center and the Krasnow Institute for Cognitive Studies. Practica placements have included NIH, Walter Reed Army Hospital and Children's Hospital National Medical Center. Faculty research interests include: comparative neuroanatomy, evoked potentials, learning and memory, and the impact of substance abuse on neurobehavioral development.

The program primarily focuses on animal research. Students have gone onto doctoral work, to positions in government research labs, such as NIH, or to other research settings. Part-time students are accepted.

Annual Tuition and Fees Costs:  In state tuition $180/credit hour, out of state $520/credit hour

Approximate Cost of Living Per Year:  ~$10,000. Availability is good. $300-$350 month for shared apartment or town house.

Day-Care Facilities Availability and Costs Per Month:  Available at on campus day-care center. $4/hr. drop in rate.

Stipend/Assistantships and Financial Assistance:  10 hour teaching assistantships ($3,800), wages positions, etc are available, but not guaranteed.
