Program Description:   In 1997, this "Graduiertenkolleg" was established as a multidisciplinary PhD program to study problems centering around neuronal plasticity.  The program is jointly organized by 15 faculty members of the University and the Max-Planck-Institute for Brain Research (http://www.klinik.uni-frankfurt.de/graduiertenkolleg/).  It educates 22 students, thereby offering 10 stipends for graduate students (2 of which are still available) and 2 stipends for postdocs (1 of which is still available). Research activities focus on both the single-cell and the network level.  The academic program includes lectures on special topics in neurobiology, seminars, workshops and excursions.  It is the program's objective to provide a broad knowledge of molecular biology, neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and developmental biology, while - at the same time - requiring an appropriate depth of knowledge in the particular field of the thesis project.
