Program Description:

Pomona College is a coeducational liberal arts college established in 1887. It is located35 miles east of Los Angeles in Claremont, CA, a small college town at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains. Pomona College is the founding member of the Claremont Colleges, a consortium of seven independent institutions.  The Neuroscience Program at Pomona College is an interdisciplinary program involving the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, and Anthropology. Students receive a broad, interdisciplinary and empirically based treatment of neuroscience beginning with an introductory course in their first year. Students are expected to select an area of concentration within neuroscience (e.g. cellular/molecular, behavioral, cognitive, or evolutionary/comparative neuroscience). All students will complete their major with a senior seminar and an original thesis.

Admission Requirements:

Minimum Expectation:

- Four years of English, three years of math, two years of social science, three foreign language

- Intended science and math majors are encouraged to pursue four years of math and three or four years of lab sciences.

Academic Profile of Entering Students:  80% of entering students are ranked in the top 10% of their high school class.  SAT-I median scores are 720 VERBAL, 710 MATH.

Financial Assistance Availability:  Need blind admission program guarantees to meet full demonstrated need of all enrolled students. 55% receive grant aid from Pomona.  Average financial aid grant for academic year 1999-2000 is $17, 200.  Average financial aid package for academic year 1999-2000 is $23, 300.
