Program Description: Davidson is a nationally recognized, highly selective, independent, liberal arts college located north of Charlotte, North Carolina in the town of Davidson. Founded in 1837 by Presbyterians, today Davidson enrolls approximately 1,600 men and women.
Students majoring in Neuroscience take a comprehensive mix of psychology, biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, and philosophy. Majors and concentrators have an opportunity to become deeply involved in cutting-edge research in the areas of brain plasticity, biological basis of drug abuse, and neural development. After graduation students go on to attend the finest graduate programs in Neuroscience as well as medical schools.
Admission Requirements: Applicants must complete secondary school graduation requirements before enrolling at Davidson. Excluding consideration for exceptional circumstances, at least 16 high school units are required, although the average student accepted at Davidson has taken 20 units. These units should include the following: 4 units of English, 3 units of mathematics, 2 units of the same foreign language, 2 units of science, and 2 units of history/social studies. It is strongly recommended that high school students continue for the third and fourth years in science and in the same foreign language, continue mathematics through calculus, and take additional courses in history. Candidates considering Davidson should take at least five academic subjects each year in secondary school, unless the school curriculum is structured around four. It is important that a challenging academic program be taken each year, but especially in the junior and senior years. All applicants are required to take the SAT I: Reasoning Test (SAT I) of the College Entrance Examination Board or the ACT of the American College Testing Program and have an official score report sent to Davidson.
