Program Description:  East Carolina University offers undergraduate multidisciplinary BA and BS programs in Neuroscience. The programs are designed for students desiring to pursue a career in neuroscience research and teaching, but are also excellent programs for students wanting a career in medicine or other health-related profession. The requirements of the programs almost totally overlap with the undergraduate courses required by most medical schools. The programs also provide outstanding preparation for either graduate study in neuroscience or medical school, or one of the related disciplines such as psychology, pharmacology, physiology, and biochemistry.
The Neuroscience Programs include a strong grounding in the basic sciences, a core of required courses, two-years research experience culminating in a senior thesis, a two-semester neuroscience capstone sequence, and many electives. The required core includes an introduction to neuroscience course and a statistics course. A large selection of electives permit a student to learn about many areas of neuroscience or to concentrate on a single area.
For students wishing to study neuroscience, but wanting to pursue another major, there is also a Multidisciplinary Minor in Neuroscience.
