Program Description The undergraduate Program in Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary program comprised of faculty in the colleges of Sciences, Liberal Arts, Agriculture & Home Economics, Veterinary Medicine, and the Honors College. The program is administered through the Department of Veterinary and Comparative Anatomy, Pharmacology and Physiology (VCAPP) in the College of Veterinary Medicine.

The Neuroscience faculty supervise undergraduate and graduate study leading to the Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees. The diversity of the undergraduate program is apparent by its multi-disciplinary curriculum and training in contemporary neuroscience. Majors are encouraged to become actively involved in the research of the faculty by joining lab groups with graduate and post-doctoral students and possibly co-authoring original research publications.

The neuroscience faculty include nationally and internationally noted scholars representing all areas of the sciences including Animal Science, Psychology, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Zoophysiology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Neuropharmacology, Neurophysiology and Neuroendocrinology, as well as distinguished faculty from other disciplines such as Biology, Chemistry, Genetics, Engineering and Clinical Veterinary Medicine.

Students graduating with a degree in Neuroscience from WSU will typically advance to professional programs such as medical, veterinary, dental, or graduate school. However, a bachelor's degree also prepares students to enter the rapidly growing biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries where much research is devoted to neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, AIDS, dementia, and multiple sclerosis, to name a few. In addition, the following careers are just a few of the opportunities open to our graduates (some careers may require more training)--medical doctor, laboratory technician, health specialist, fragrance researcher, physical therapist, K-12 science teacher, science sales representative, veterinary technician, veterinarian, dentist, technical writer, pharmacist assistant, pharmacist, medical technician, research assistant, scientific illustrator, pharmacy sales representative, and hygienist.

Admission Requirements:  To be eligible for admission, candidates must meet general Washington State University requirements outlined in the Washington State University Catalog in effect at the time of their admission.

Undergraduate Applicants:  In the second semester of the student's sophomore year, if the student is in good standing, and has met all the required core prerequisites, the student will be admitted to the program. Those students in good standing after their sophomore year, who have not completed the required core prerequisite courses, yet are capable of beginning the neuroscience core sequence, may be admitted to the program on a provisional basis pending completion of the prerequisites. The undergraduate Program in Neuroscience follows all equal opportunity guidelines when reviewing program admission requests.
