Position Description: The University of Massachusetts Amherst seeks applications and encourages nominations for the Director of its Graduate Program in Neuroscience and Behavior (www.umass.edu/neuro
), now celebrating its 20th year. We are an interdisciplinary program with 45 faculty members, spanning four colleges and six departments, as well as colleges in and near Amherst, Massachusetts. Graduate students and postdocs are currently supported by two NIH training grants, individual fellowships, and research and teaching assistantships.
We seek a highly visible researcher with strong leadership skills, and whose vigorous, well-funded research program will complement and extend our strengths in Developmental Neurobiology, Neuroendocrinology, Neurodegeneration, Behavioral Neuroscience and Cognitive Neuroscience. The successful candidate will be appointed to a senior-level, tenure system position in either the Biology or Psychology Department, whichever is more appropriate.
The University of Massachusetts Amherst, the flagship campus of the University of Massachusetts system, sits on nearly 1,450-acres in the scenic Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts, 90 miles from Boston and 50 miles from Worcester, the home of the UMass Medical School. The Program has strong ties with the Pioneer Valley Life Sciences Institute, situated at the Baystate Medical Center in nearby Springfield. The Institute recently established a Center for Excellence in Apoptosis Research and is a source of translational opportunities and an extensive clinical population.
